Support Act Limited (SAL) is a registered charity and non profit organisation which raises funds to provide relief arising from hardship and/or illness amongst those working in the Australian music industry and is the only benevolent fund for this purpose. SAL was set up by a group of volunteers from the music industry several years ago who could see there was a definite need for an organisation to help those who were suffering from illness and/or hardship.
As SAL It currently receives no Government funding itis reliant on donations and fundraising events.

History
The Australian Independent (AIR) Charts were re-launched in July 2000 to profile Australian independent record labels, distributors, and artists of all musical genres.
The Independent Charts are published weekly in street press nationally as well as e-mailed to over 2000 community radio stations, media, music industry personnel, and the general public through the AIR Charts weekly e-news.
The AIR Charts differ from ARIA charts because they focus on Australian artists represented by Australian independent labels, which accounts for substantial number of all releases in Australia each year. Product represented by multinational labels is not included in these charts, which makes the charts a more accurate reflection of the sales performance of the larger percentage of the industry.
Currently AIR produces two charts each week, the Independent Label Chart; where an artist is self-released or released by an Australian owned label, and can be distributed by any distributor, including majors.
The second chart, is the Independent Label, Independent Distributor (100% Australian) chart.
Current charts published weekly include:
Top 20 Albums - Independent Labels, Independent Distributors
Top 20 Singles / Eps – Independent Labels, Independent Distributors
Top 20 Albums – Independent Labels, Any Distributor (including majors)
Top 20 Singles / EPs – Independent Labels, Any Distributor (including majors)
Monthly Charts
A number of monthly charts are also compiled for specific niche genres. These Charts provide details of the Top 10 selling albums released by Australian independent artists with independent distribution. This includes:
Electronic and Dance
Blues and Roots
Jazz
Country
Urban and HipHop
Hard Rock and Punk
In a market saturated by international and multi-national product, the AIR Charts are just one part of AIR’s strategy to help unearth or provide a fertile ground for new and evolving breakthrough Australian artists.
