VENDESTINY, the debut solo album from pianist and composer Kym Alexandra Dillon, introduces a striking new voice in contemporary piano.

An immersive, emotionally rich debut VENDESTINY draws listeners into a vivid inner world shaped entirely through the enchantment of solo piano.

Through virtuosic command and an expansive, deeply expressive language, Dillon transforms the instrument into something orchestral, lyrical, and profoundly personal.

Seamlessly traversing stylistic boundaries, the release unfolds as both a sonic landscape and an intimate extension of the artist herself.

Each piece starts its life as a musical seed which grows and blooms into a complete and ornate artwork, conjuring its own realm within which to explore and feel.

Moving fluidly between classical, jazz and contemporary genres, into these compositions Dillon weaves and explores her personal reflections on self-discovery, virtue, play, the refuge of the imagination, hope, nostalgia, the choice of gratitude at the close of a relationship, and how our own lives and destinies are intricately intertwined with those around us.

Celebrating the richness of experience brought by every individual person, the listener is invited to forge their own personal connection to each piece, and to together embark on a shared journey of openness, imagination, expression and optimism.

Dillon’s richly expressive pianism is the most striking feature of her work: her sound is expansive, stylistically versatile, emotionally direct and lyrical. Her influences are broad, including lilting Medieval folk song, the scores of Thomas Newman and Joe Hisaishi, the works of Franz Liszt, and the jazz language of Keith Jarrett.

Kym says of the album:
“VENDESTINY is a word that came to me to stand for how our own individual stories intersect with the stories of those around us, how a person possesses many different sides and ways of being, about trying to hold together all of your own complexities, and possible branching paths. The piano is my home, it’s the lens through which I process the world. Each of these pieces shift their meanings for me over time, they change colour in different lights.”

The first single, Vanishing Act, is a stunningly emotional piece.

It originates from a melancholic tune that first came to Dillon at a train station at night, after which it blooms and swirls through imaginative variations, evoking the finding of refuge and solace through disappearing into a musical dreamscape.

The second single, Bells Across the Hills is an atmospheric, spacious work where glistening chords call and answer each other.

Dillon imagines herself awakening at twilight to rolling hills of grass, where the distant tolling of otherworldly bells calls one to follow the sound to a new destiny, a soon to be revealed purpose.
