Nothing Lasts Forever the latest release from ENOLA is a concept EP that’s written as both a love letter and a mirror, tracing the full arc of a relationship from longing and desire, unity, through to separation, acceptance, and letting go.
Naarm/Melbourne-based dream pop and shoegaze artist ENOLA - the solo project of Ruby Marshall (they/them) wrote the release with the intention of being listened to in a single sitting. Each song seamlessly shifting into the next and unfurling like chapters in a story.
"That is a feeling that has always weighed on me deeply,”
ENOLA shares.
“Adore is a song about fear, vulnerability, and the risks of loving someone fully. It starts with the fear of entering a relationship, self-doubt, self-loathing, and the worry that you’ll hurt the person you love. The choruses shift the perspective, showing the other side: a deep adoration for someone so strong that it tempts you to take the risk anyway. It’s about being brave and triumphant in love.”
Where their debut EP, the 3x AIR nominated All Is Forgiven, was earmarked by a hardened post-punk edge, Nothing Lasts Forever sits in softness: reverb and synths building on one another to create fully immersive atmospheric soundscapes.
“Ultimately, Nothing Lasts Forever is about preserving a feeling. It is an attempt to capture a moment in time and immortalise it through song, creating something that can continue to exist long after circumstances have changed. More than anything, the EP is intended to leave behind a sense that, at one point in time, someone was deeply seen, deeply understood, and deeply loved.”
Nothing Lasts Forever was made over ten days at Schenk Studios in Amsterdam with Dave Tomlinson - eight of which were spent with Tomlinson and Marshall working together one-on-one.
It was engineered by Pieter Vonk, mixed and mastered by Lindsay Gravina of Birdland Studios (Rowland S. Howard, HTRK), with instrumentation by Maurits Nijhuis (drums), Una Jongenelis (bass) and Craig Sharp (guitar), with David Tomlinson on synth, guitar, bass and drum machine, and vocals and core guitar work by Ruby.
ENOLA continues to carve out a space where shoegaze textures meet raw emotional clarity, offering an intimate, relatable space for listeners to feel, reflect, and connect.
