Come meet the AIR team and hear from Sophie McComish (Blossom Rot Records), Philip Mortlock (ORiGiN Music), and Joshua White (Third Eye Stimuli) at our Wollongong Networking event.

About Joshua White:

Josh White is the co-founder and label director of Sydney & Wollongong based indie record label, Third Eye Stimuli Records. Founded in 2016, the label has built an international reputation for unearthing some of Australia’s most exciting and unique rock and indie acts. With a roster of over 15 bands including GIMMY, Leah Senior, Arbes, Winter McQuinn, The Laurels, Hot Apple Band, The Uplifting Bell Ends, Josh has a passion for discovering emerging artists and supporting them to break into the Australian and global markets. Having performed and recorded music in his own bands, Josh has been involved in the Sydney & Wollongong music community for 15 years and from this, he has developed an authentic, grassroots approach to developing artists.

 

About Philip Mortlock:

Philip Mortlock has regretfully earned the title ‘industry veteran’ with over 50 years active in the Australian music scene. This included many years at Warner Music where he started out in the art department doing graphic design - album covers - to being Managing Director of the Australian division working with artists including INXS, Jenny Morris, Cold Chisel, Boom Crash Opera, 1927, Not Drowning Waving and many others.

Philip then established ORiGiN Music with his business partner Philip Walker - encompassing Music and book publishing, record label ORiGiN Recordings, Theatrical Licensing and recently a Production Music division - POST.

The ORiGiN Music roster has over 100 independent Australian and New Zealand artists and composers including Meg Washington, Cookin On 3 Burners, 1927, Elana Stone, Gotye, James Morrison, L Fresh, Nat Bartsch, Vacations, The Stamps, Salarymen, Emma Swift, Crocodiles and many more.

Philip has served time as an Independent on the ARIA Board as well as the NFSA, the HUSH Foundation, AMPAL and for over 20 years as an active indie board member of AIR.

 

About Sophie McComish:

Sophie McComish is a musician and music industry professional currently residing in Dharawal country/Scarborough, NSW. A multi-instrumentalist involved in various musical projects and deeply entrenched in the independent music community, Sophie’s primary artistic output occurs with her band Body Type, where she is a guitarist and vocalist. Sophie is co-founder and co-director of Blossom Rot Records, an indie label and creative collective that is dedicated to amplifying the voices and sounds of women and non-binary artists from the Australian underground. Since its inception in 2020, Blossom Rot Records has released 18 records by 35 groups and supported 160 individual artists
