SAN MEI - HEAVEN
Prefaced by her single of the same name, which was touted by triple j announcer Declan Byrne as a 'dizzying dreamy ride that i'm lining up for again and again no matter the queue' and accolade-accumulating lead single 'Wonder', San Mei offers her sophomore EP Heaven.
The new EP is a clutch of four indie rock supernovas, characterized by San Mei's take-no-prisoners guitar hooks, lush vocals and exemplifies the multi instrumentalist's songwriting dexterity, which has been meticulously crafted since her 2013 debut 'Brighter'.
The EP follows the success of singles 'Heaven' and 'Wonder', both of which were championed by national youth broadcaster triple j, the latter copping an Australian radio premiere on Good Nights with Bridget Hustwaite, a spin on Kingsmill's 2018 and promptly being added to rotation. Subsequently landing San Mei as the 6th most played unsigned artist on triple j in the weeks after its release. Unearthed can't get enough either, with 'Wonder' shooting San Mei to 'Unearthed Artist of the Week' and securing 'Unearthed Best New Song of the Week'. Just this week, 'Heaven' was added to national rotation on the HITFM network, securing San Mei's first taste of commercial radio airplay, and prefacing big things to come.
While Amazon Music named 'Wonder' their 'Song Of The Day' and their 'Weekly One', Apple Music added it to their 'Best Of The Week' and Spotify included it on a host of their curated playlists as it racked up over 148,000 streams. The accompanying videos for both 'Heaven' and 'Wonder' saw San Mei nab the 'Upload of The Week' (Wonder) on MTV and a rotation adds to RAGE.
Internationally, San Mei has transfixed press since her debut, receving nods from NME, Stereofox and Indie Shuffle, with 'Heaven' being introduced to the UK via Radio X and making waves on Amazing Radio. On top of the praise, 'Wonder' reached number one on Hype Machine the week it was released.
It's been a busy year of touring for San Mei, including showcases at BIGSOUND, supporting GUM and G Flip on their Brisbane legs and played her first ever headlining dates in Sydney and Melbourne. Closing out 2018 , San Mei will join Holy Holy and CLEWS on an eight date East Coat run throughout November and December.
