Live In Levi’s® - Awards Night Dressing 101

Levi’s® invited Australian Independent musicians to share their Live In Levi’s® story - with top suggestions for dressing to impress for the Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards.

Here, Little Bastard, Nkechi Anele of Saskwatch, and Karina Utomo of High Tension have given us their pro tips and a playlist of songs handpicked to get pumped for the big night.

NKECHI ANELE OF SASKWATCH

What are your tips dressing for an awards night?

Have something or someone that can carry you stuff so your hands aren’t always full… If you’re a hoarder like me.

Turn up a bit late like 10-20 minutes, so you’re not that person that’s too eager to be there.

Wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be standing around and talking to people a lot. Mints are also good for this reason.

Go in a group so you don’t get too nervous turning up and it’s also fun to get ready with your friends.

Don’t dress too over the top because you’re hanging out with your friends and it’s best to be yourself. People love you already.

What’s the No.1 thing you need to remember when picking an outfit for an awards night?

Keep it simple and comfortable, because you’re there to celebrate and have fun.

What should you never wear to an awards night?

A fascinator. They’re stupid!

What never goes out of style?

Nice teeth and black denim jeans. (For both males and females).

What’s your ultimate playlist to get ready for a night out?

Little Red – Rock It

I love Little Red. They’re songs a catchy, simple and beautiful. This song is about going out and seeing you’re mates. So, basically, it’s appropriate.
Bombay Royale – (Give Me Back My) Bunty Bunty

It’s hard to sing this song without a smile on your face. It’s cheeky and happy and I love it.

Dorsal Fins – Monday Tuesday

I love this song. Featuring Ella Thompson’s (GL, Bamboos) amazeballs vocals gets inside your head. Although the lyrics are somewhat sad, the song is really fun and gets you in a partying mood.

The Harpoons – Unforgettable

This would be the song that you’d play as you’re getting ready. Bec Rigby’s voice is enchanting. I look up to her so much - her voice is amazing.

The Vines – Get Free

This is a bit of an oldie – it’s an awesome pump up song. You can let loose on the song and it helps get rid of nerves before a night out.

LITTLE BASTARD

What are your tips dressing for an awards night?

Just look spectacular. That's the only thing you need to remember. Start getting ready early, so you've got time to really wear in your digs. You don't wanna be looking like a mannequin when you strut your stuff, you want people to think you came out of the womb struttin' style.

What’s the No.1 thing you need to remember when picking an outfit for an awards night?

Just remember that you probably look better than everyone else, so act like it.

What should you never wear to an awards night?

Never wear anything that looks like you actually thought about what it would look like when you put it on. You just nailed it, first go, as far as everyone else knows, anyway.

What never goes out of style?

Style. So don't mess with it.

What’s your ultimate playlist to get ready for a night out?

I usually like to rev up with a bit of Barnesy in the arvo, probably that Cheap Wine track, then move on to something a little for chilled, maybe some Courtney Barnett, that Avant Gardener track is just the coolest thing out. So is she. Then I'll get on a tangent and listen to all my old bands demos on my computer and lament our limited success, and wonder why no one got it. Then it's usually time to leave and I've drunk all the beers, so a quick blast of John Farnham's You're The Voice to get my spirits back up and it's go time, baby!

What’s the No.1 thing you need to remember when picking an outfit for an awards night?

Can you do a lunge in it?

No rules! #breakingthelaw

What never goes out of style?

Cheesy grins.

What’s your ultimate playlist to get ready for a night out?

INXS – Don’t Change

Don’t change your outfit. INXS nailed this song; this is the definition of a classic bloody hit.
Sadistik Exekution – F---ing Death

Fantastik lyriks, fantastik execution. Sadistik Exekution are also responsible for one of the best album titles ever: We Are Death F--k You.

Mindsnare – I Can See Blood

Every Mindsnare show is a good time. If you play Mindsnare before you leave the house, you will most likely have a great experience that evening.

King Parrot – S--t On The Liver

Humour, hooks and catchy as hell.

Magic Dirt – Anita’s Miracle Suntan Lotion

Songs from Tough Love and What Are Rockstars Doing Today bring back only the best memories.
