TARA SIMMONS - SHOW ME SPIRIT 'TIL THE END

The treasured Tara Simmons' posthumous album Show Me Spirit 'til the End, bursting with colour and courage, emulates Tara's bright energy and uncompromising approach to her craft. Co-produced with longtime collaborator and personal friend Yanto Browning, the album is a sonic journey containing both powerful emotion and a playful attitude, much like the artist herself. Tara worked on the record until the last moment, even recording vocals for songs in the palliative care ward, perched on the end of her bed, under fairy lights put up by her mum. ‘Show Me Spirit ‘til the End’ is a true testament to the artist's legacy and brings her ever so close to her fans, family and friends.

Beginning the album with the bubbly first single ‘Achromatopsia’Tara’s combination of electronic pop and airy guitar produces a vibrant and multicoloured soundscape. As outlined by Browning, the opening track is a “nice reminder of the time we had working together before her illness.” Tara’s team previously released ‘North’ just a few days after her passing in 2019, nabbing Double J rotation. Almost a year later came the wonky electronic bop ‘Let’s Go’ featuring instrumental and production contributions from Sam Hales of The Jungle Giants and producer Konstantin Kersting (Tones & I, Mallrat). Tara has since received spins on triple j’s Home & Hosed, coverage on the likes of NME and playlist love from tastemakers such as Double J's Zan Rowe.

Show Me Spirit ‘til the End seamlessly flows from slower more instrumentally dominated tracks such as ‘Devotion’ to fast-paced synth-heavy dance tunes like ‘Mess It Up Again’. Browning explained that Tara wanted the album to reflect all the emotional states associated with her living with cancer”. He continued to mention that tracks like ‘Let’s Go’ were moments of pure escapism and resulted in Tara and Yanto “dancing around the living room like idiots”. Whereas songs like ‘Four Leaf’ paint a calmer, more sobering picture of Tara playing piano on her back deck in Zillmere with the birds singing in the background.

Surrounding herself with like-minded artists, 'Show Me Spirit 'til the End' contains features and contributions from a who's who of Brisbane music including; Sam Hales (The Jungle Giants), Megan Washington, Danny Harley (The Kite String Tangle), Konstantin Kersting, Gav Parry (YesYou), Kate Miller-Heidke, Dean McGrath (Hungry Kids of Hungary, Rolls Bayce) and Chris O'Neill. Plus mixing and production from her longtime collaborator of 15 years, Yanto Browning (The Jungle Giants, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Medics) and mastering from Grammy Award winner William Bowden

Tara Simmons' impossible amount of talent led her to release two albums, three EPs and a handful of remixes across her career. Her unwavering passion guided her to tour as frontwoman and vocalist for electronic outfit YesYou, supporting the likes of MsMr, Neon Indian, Midnight Juggernauts and RÜFÜS DU SOL

Despite her distance, ‘Show Me Spirit ‘til the End’ stands to be an extraordinary goodbye from Tara. With a discography solidifying her impact on the Australian and Global music industry, she leaves behind a mighty legacy and an incredible final offering.
