Feature: Tear Drive - Face To Face

Pairing anthemic soundscapes and pounding rhythm sections with disarming and emotionally-grounded songwriting, Tear Drive reveal their debut EP Face to Face.

The five-track EP captures Tear Drive hitting their stride; Face To Face reveals a constant push and pull, ultimately settling as a body of work that is as expansive as it is intimate.

The lyrics on the EP move between longing and resignation, hope and acceptance. ‘There’s a strange sense of safety attached to admitting the truth when the ship has essentially sailed,’ the band said of the themes on the EP.

Face To Face, created alongside ARIA-Award winning producer Cody McWaters, signals the arrival of an act on the verge of something far bigger.

Focus track ‘Better Off’ is a moment of vulnerability after things have fallen apart - a confession from a safe distance. From quiet sensitivity, the track builds to a cathartic and liberating release - sweeping guitars and a driving rhythm section juxtapose an improvised cello arrangement with hints of melancholic piano. It’s intentionally cinematic, taking listeners on an emotional journey both sonically and lyrically.

Gabe and Nic originally wrote ‘Better Off’ in their bedrooms when they were just 17, before Tear Drive was even a whisper of a thought.
