Nominated in this year's awards in the BEST INDEPENDENT BLUES AND ROOTS ALBUM category, is Caiti Baker.

Caiti Baker is a singer, songwriter and performer born into music – her household filled with vinyl, CDs and tapes of blues, soul, gospel, jazz, big band and rock & roll. Caiti’s blues musician father, made sure that she was raised amongst music – it was everywhere.

Growing up on the pioneering music but drawn obsessively to Hip Hop, R&B, NJS and Soul, Caiti learnt how to write and record songs on her own from the age of 12. Inspired by greats like Aretha Franklin, Big Mamma Thornton and Little Walter; Caiti took notes on Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, Faith Evans among others.

Caiti released her debut album ‘Zinc’, produced by James Mangohig and Michael Hohnen, in October 2017 through Perambulator Records. Garnering 4 star reviews from Rolling Stone and themusic.com, highly-regarded music journalist Tony Hilliar said “Caiti Baker is a genuine one-off, whose startling musicality and originality embraces like a breath if fresh air.”

Caiti has supported Son Little, Booker T, Gurrumul, Guy Sebastian, Dan Sultan among others and is heavily affiliated with Briggs’ Bad Apples label. (A.B. Original – Reclaim Australia, Birdz – Train of Thought and Briggs.) In 2017, Caiti won The NT Song of The Year; the NLMA’s Best Live Performer in the NT and she is the AU Awards’ R&B Soul Artist of 2017.

All awards winners will be announced at the 2018 AIR Awards on Thursday 26 July at the Queen’s Theatre, Adelaide.
