2018 AIR AWARDS NOMINEE SPOTLIGHT - THE VAMPIRES

Nominated in this year's awards in the BEST JAZZ ALBUM category is The Vampires  with their album The Vampires meet Lionel Loueke.

Described by the UK Guardian as “seductive, genre-hopping creativity," and US Downbeat magazine as “worldly, talented”, celebrated world-roots-jazz band The Vampires features saxophonist Jeremy Rose, trumpeter Nick Garbett, bassist Alex Boneham and drummer Alex Masso. The band has released five albums and toured relentlessly around Australia, Europe and the UK.

Combining risk-taking improvisation, sophisticated compositions and an uncanny sense of dialogue between the sax-trumpet frontline, the band has developed a style of its own that effortlessly combines influences from all corners of the world. To mark 10 years of performing together, the band collaborated with one of the jazz world’s most talked about guitarists, Lionel Loueke, for their ARIA nominated ‘The Vampires Meet Lionel Loueke’. The album was the first ever instrumental album to be shortlisted for the 2018 Australian Music Prize, and was named in several top 10 albums for 2017, including All About Jazz and Cadence Magazine (US).

All awards winners will be announced at the 2018 AIR Awards on Thursday 26 July at the Queen’s Theatre, Adelaide.
