AIR launches Australian Independent Music Market Survey
Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) has released the next iteration of the Australian independent music market survey. The survey is open from today until Tuesday, 1st October, with all independent record labels and distributors in the industry invited to take part.
Deloitte Access Economics will once again take carriage of conducting the survey which informs the AIR Share report. The AIR Share report aims to quantify the market share of the independent sector of the recording industry and highlight the role that it plays in society.
This survey was originally run in 2017 and informed the first AIR Share report. As a result of the survey, the Deloitte Access Economics report (available here) found that the Independent market accounted for 30% of the total Australian music market (or $155 million in 2014-15).
AIR is asking independent record labels and distributors in the industry to complete a new survey, available. The new data will inform an updated report, quantifying the size and growth of the independent market.
According to AIR General Manager, Maria Amato:
“Results from this survey will be used to help inform the public, music industry, and government audiences of the contribution and size of independent music in Australia. In addition, this information could be used as supporting evidence to encourage discussions and inform conversations regarding royalty and income distribution.”
The results of the survey will be published in a new AIR share report, which will provide updated market share statistics for independent record labels in Australia.
Every organisation that completes the survey goes in the running to win a complimentary 2020 BIGSOUND Purple Pass and a complimentary AIR membership.
