APRA AMCOS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES FOR WOMEN LAUNCHES

APRA AMCOS kicked off its new Professional Development Series for Women to an enthusiastic audience at their Brisbane office. The national event series features Next Act Coaching’s Viv Fantin presenting her popular interactive workshop ‘Tune Out Your Inner Critic’ for the organisation’s songwriter, composer and music publisher members.

The impetus for the series came following a tremendous amount of applications and interest in APRA AMCOS’ inaugural Female Mentoring program, an initiative created to address the gender imbalance across membership ranks.

The Professional Development Series aims to provide ‘In Real Life’ resources to a broader group of women and non-binary members who are looking for creative and business skills to support them in their professional pursuits.

Fantin, a certified accredited coach and independent music publicist, specialises in helping those in the creative industries to reach their goals. Her ‘Tune Out Your Inner Critic’ session at this year’s BIGSOUND won rave reviews, and she will present a bespoke version of it around the country for APRA AMCOS.

“I’m so thrilled to be part of APRA AMCOS' Professional Development Series for Women. I see women from the creative fields crippled by their inner critic all the time, and I’m talking about seriously talented individuals who have many reasons to feel accomplished and confident, yet are undermined by negative self-talk,” says Fantin.

“My hope is that the tools from this presentation will allow the inner critic to visit less frequently, speak more quietly and take up less head space.”

APRA AMCOS’ Head of Member Services Jana Gibson remarks: “The demand for this type of series reinforces what the research is telling us: while the number of men and women studying music is nearly equal, fewer women feel equipped to pursue music at a professional level. The aim across our initiatives is to help make the career pathways easier to navigate, so that we don’t have an attrition of talent from the music industry.”

Tonight the series heads to Melbourne, with events in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin to follow. Doors for all events are 5:30 PM with the program to start at 6 PM. Members can contact their state or territory representative or go to http://apraamcos.com.au/prodev for more information.
